Lasting Power of Attorney

Wills are used when somebody has passed away and enables assets to be distributed quickly and easily.  However, your Will cannot help if someone is ill and has lost the ability to make decisions for themselves.

Everyday people lose the ability to make decisions for themselves completely unexpectedly either through an accident or illness and can strike at any time and you don’t always get warning.

If you are unfortunate and suffer an accident or an illness that prevent you making your own decisions, if you don’t have a Lasting Power of Attorney your husband/wife/partner and children have no automatic right to manage your affairs.

Even jointly owned accounts can be frozen or restricted where one account holder loses capacity. If you don’t plan ahead, you may lose the choice of who manages your affairs.

There are 2 types of LPA’s.

Property and Finance and this cover things like:

  • Buying and selling property
  • Investing money
  • Paying the mortgage
  • Paying bills
  • Arranging repairs to property
  • Managing a bank or building society account
  • Collecting benefits or a pension

Health and welfare and this cover things like:

  • Where you should live
  • Your medical care
  • What you should eat
  • Who you should have contact with
  • What kind of social activities you should take part in
  • Your daily routine, e.g. washing, dressing, eating
  • Moving into a care home
  • Life sustain treatment

If you want to ensure you stay in control of your lives making a Lasting Power of Attorney is essential. By planning ahead, you can prevent the costly and stressful process of going through the court of protection to get the circumstances you want for your loved ones.your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.

Articles – Good topics for articles include anything related to your company – recent changes to operations, the latest company softball game – or the industry you’re in. General business trends (think national and even international) are great article fodder, too.

Mission statements – You can tell a lot about a company by its mission statement. Don’t have one? Now might be a good time to create one and post it here. A good mission statement tells you what drives a company to do what it does.

Company policies – Are there company policies that are particularly important to your business? Perhaps your unlimited paternity/maternity leave policy has endeared you to employees across the company. This is a good place to talk about that.

Executive profiles – A company is only as strong as its executive leadership. This is a good place to show off who’s occupying the corner offices. Write a nice bio about each executive that includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
